I always get told that Amelie is so advanced for her age, I’ve actually been asked on lots of occasions what I do differently and the answer is absolutely nothing or at least I don’t think I’ve done anything differently. Every Mum has their own style of Motherhood and ways of raising their children that works perfectly for them.
Ever since Amelie was born I would talk to her like a small adult as opposed to a baby. Of course I was guilty of talking in “The baby voice” from time to time, but even then I’d be having full blown conversations with her about what we were doing that day, her surroundings, how she was, what’s news, you know just general girly chit chat to engage her little mind and it seemed to work like magic!
I’ll never forget however the time in Tesco’s when a total stranger took it upon herself let me know that I was “talking to myself, as the baby can’t talk back!” can you imagine my face! Very aware that Amelie couldn’t talk back I’m so glad I didn’t let her remark stop me from chatting away and developing Amelie into the clever little lady that she is.
The other element that I also reply with when I get asked about how is her speech so advanced is with reading. I strive to read to Amelie twice a day, once in the morning and then again before bed. She absolutely loves getting lost in a good book with me, watching her imagination come to life is just so magical.
It’s always been my lifes biggest dream to have two beautiful girls and read to them magical books.
There are so many reasons why experts and school teachers recommend to start reading to your child at a young age but this for me is the most important.
Being a lover of books myself can you imagine my excitement when my best friend told me that she was following her dream of becoming an author and self publishing her first children’s book?!
As a former primary school teacher it’s safe to say Sophie is a sheer writing genius and knows all about why reading is so important. As a devoted mother and a true talent when it comes to children’s novels I’m so excited to share with you an exclusive interview with Sophie herself as well the chance for you to be one of the first to get your hands on this new, inspirational piece of literature.
Q: How long have you wanted to be an Author for?
A: I have dreamed of becoming an author for the past 4 years but have been writing stories my whole life. I have always been a book worm and reading makes my heart feel happy.
Q: What’s the first book you remember reading and falling in love with?
A: It has to be Roald Dahl’s Matilda! She is such an inspirational book character. A little girl making the best of a bad situation and showing how books really are the best way to escape reality when you have to stay where you are. I so desperately wanted to be Matilda when I was younger. I would put on a blue dress and walk around holding my books.
Q: Tell me a little bit more about “Believe In Pixie Hart”, what can the reader expect?
A: Pixie Hart brings a splash of magic to everyday life in this empowering tale proving that anything is possible if you truly believe in it.
Q: Who/ what most inspires your writing?
A: Over the past four years I have written around four stories. I put my heart and soul into the stories but there was always something missing. It wasn’t until Lola (my daughter) arrived in April last year that I was able to write the perfect story. She is most definitely my muse.
Q: Where did the idea for the character Pixie Hart come from?
A: The idea came from wanting to create a character which could be a positive role model to young girls. I think it is so important for our girls to grow up to be kind, strong and determined women who completely believe in themselves. They need to be confident in who they are, their abilities and what they believe in. I think having Lola made me want to help to create this type of character. Pixie Hart is so strong, kind, and determined. She also believes in herself completely. I think that is what we all hope our children will grow up to be.
Q: What are your hopes for your book?
A: I hope that children will fall in love with Pixie Hart and that she will remind them to believe in themselves. I also hope my story will be loved by all the family. It is the type of story which can be shared with an adult. The thought of families reading my story at bedtime makes me feel extremely happy!
Q: Who’s your favourite Author?
A: My favourite children’s author was Roald Dahl. An absolute inspiration in the children’s book world. A true genius. He wrote hilarious, yet meaningful stories. I would have loved to have spent a day in his mind.
Q: Why is reading as a child so important do you think?
A: I could put my Primary School Teacher hat on and say that reading isn’t just important but it is vital to children’s language development and when they are old enough their writing ability.
However more importantly is that reading allows children to enter a world which is full of magical and amazing things. This allows them to develop their imagination which is the most wonderful gift we can give our children.
